Art in a Box – The Event took place at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) on Friday, 20th June, 2014. Featuring a live auction hosted by TV’s Mark Stacey and a VIP dinner for over 100 invited guests, the evening was a huge success, raising over £14,000 for mental health charity Upbeat Music.

Following the huge success of Art in a Box, we’re pleased to announce that complete postcard sets of all the project artwork are now available.
These bespoke sets, with custom Art in a Box packaging, contain postcards of each and every original painting produced for the project.

Based on an original concept, conceived and developed by Eazl, Art in a Box (AIAB) is a celebrity art project that brings together an amazing cast of A-list stars in a unique way. Unleashing their considerable creative talents in support of Upbeat Music, the AIAB artists are:

While the AIAB participants are best known for their work in music, acting, comedy and sport, many are also accomplished visual artists and have used their talent to the full. Others, though, such as Paul Whitehouse, have never really painted before. Professional art critics and the public at large will be able to judge the eclectic mix for themselves at the week-long exhibition opening at the Store Street Gallery on Monday, 19th May.
On Friday 20th June the artwork will be moved to the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) where it will be sold following a live auction. Due to limited space, the live auction will be an invite-only event. Anyone unable to attend has the opportunity to place advance bids here. There will also be an option to apply for telephone bidding on the night. For those not lucky enough to secure an original, limited edition prints will be available to buy after the event. All of the money raised from Art in a Box will go directly to Upbeat Music & Mental Health Limited. Upbeat are a Camden-based charity who organize extensive musical workshops, open mic evenings and live events for those suffering from mental health issues. The charity receives referrals from the NHS and other clinical bodies and enrolls participating clients on courses that run for many weeks. Having previously been majority funded by the London Borough of Camden, Upbeat saw a significant drop in funding due to local government cutbacks during the recent economic crisis. The charity has recently been fortunate to receive an Awards For All grant that will fund a series of workshops throughout the first half of 2014. The aim of Art in a Box is to raise enough to fund the charity’s activities in the second half of the year and into 2015. You can learn more about Upbeat here.

The people that made Art in a Box happen…
A number of companies, institutions and individuals have been instrumental in enabling AIAB to become a reality. As supporters, they have been extremely generous in giving their time, resources and expertise. Thanks to them, AIAB has developed into a truly collaborative project that has exceeded all expectations.
At the heart of AIAB are the painting sets donated by Reeves, whose history in supplying artists’ materials goes back to 1766. The painting sets were individually housed in bespoke wooden boxes, inscribed with the participants’ names, designed and produced by The Wenlock Box Co. As a memento for the project, the painting sets and boxes are for the participants to keep; Suggs even took his paints on holiday to India, where he produced an inspired triptych for AIAB.
By freely providing their premises, the Store Street Gallery have enabled the participants’ artwork to be brought together in a fantastic, central London space. The costs and logistics of organizing the exhibition, including framing and transporting the artwork, have been supported by the The Good Whey Co. By a fortuitous turn of fate, The Good Whey Co. have recently launched a fresh protein drink called Upbeat, making them ideal partners. All framing and printing for AIAB has been carried out by Menor, a specialist, Hertfordshire-based company that has provided ongoing support to Eazl and Upbeat Music.
The beautiful surroundings of the RSA have also been provided free-of-charge for the VIP evening and auction. Food and staffing for the event has been donated by Harbour & Jones Events, one of London’s leading caterers.
Eazl and Upbeat Music are extremely grateful to all of the above for their support. Finally, a huge thank you has to go out to the artists themselves, without whom, Art in a Box would never have been possible.
Eazl was set up by a group of people with a vision to raise money for charity in a new way. The great thing about Eazl is that we focus on visual art and music as the primary vehicles for raising money, supporting working artists at the same time as funding important causes.
Eazl revolves promoting the creation of original art, re-imagine existing artworks to breath new life into iconic images, and organising events that bring art and music together in creative ways. In all our projects, we aim to appeal to a diverse audience. As a result, we hope to take art into areas where it might not normally tread.
The core focus of Eazl is to raise money for charity. Money raised from the sale of original artworks and exhibition quality prints is directed to specific charities whose need is great and who are often unable to direct fundraising campaigns on their own.
Based in London, Eazl’s small team of passionate individuals incorporates artists, writers and creative talents. As Eazl, we come together to brainstorm innovative ideas and develop them into effective campaigns.
We want to inspire as many people as possible to make supporting art and good causes an important and rewarding part of their life. While we are based in the UK, our network and reach is global and we hope Eazl can become a truly international initiative.
