Sir Ian Botham
|A cricket legend and one of Britain’s favourite sporting characters, Sir Ian Botham is a former England Test team captain who recorded 14 Test centuries and 383 Test wickets. Still known to many as “Beefy”, he holds the record for the highest number of wickets taken by an England bowler. Regarded as his country’s greatest ever all-rounder, his knighthood in 2007 was awarded in recognition of both his cricketing achievements and his sustained support for Leukemia research. Building on his sporting reputation and lively personality, Sir Ian has made numerous TV and media appearances over the years, being awarded BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1981 and recognized again in 2004 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In total, his charity work has brought in more than £12 million, making a huge difference to many lives.
